Why it matters

Most applications are read by software before a person sees them. If an applicant tracking system can’t pull your job titles, dates or skills out of the file — because of columns, tables, text in images or unusual headings — those parts can be missed in a recruiter’s search, however good the content is. Checking first shows you what survives.

How it works

  1. 01Upload or paste your resume
  2. 02Paste the job description (optional, but it makes the check specific)
  3. 03Read the report and fix the top items first

What the check covers

  • The text a parser can actually extract, shown next to your resume so you can spot anything lost
  • Whether standard sections, contact details and dates are found
  • Keywords from the job description you match and the ones you don’t
  • Formatting that commonly trips parsers, such as tables, columns and text in images
  • How a recruiter skimming for a few seconds is likely to read it

What you get back

  • A 0–100 score with the reasons it isn’t higher
  • Up to five fixes, most important first, each with a rough estimate of what it’s worth
  • A section-by-section breakdown
  • An optional rewrite that uses only facts already in your resume

How to read the score

The score is an estimate of how well this resume reads to parsers and to the job you pasted — not a ranking against other people and not a prediction of a callback. Use it to decide what to fix, then check again.

  • Specific to each jobPaste the job description and the check, the tailoring, the letter and the interview questions are all written for that job.
  • Interview practice from your own resumeQuestions come from the job and your experience, and feedback points to what you could have mentioned from your resume.

Questions

What is an ATS?
An applicant tracking system is the software many employers use to collect applications. It turns your resume file into text and fields (name, roles, dates, skills) that recruiters search and filter. If the text comes out scrambled or a heading isn’t recognised, parts of your resume can be missed.
How does an ATS resume checker work?
Ergent reads your file the way a parser does — extracting the text, finding sections, contact details and dates — then an AI review compares it with the job description and scores it. You see the extracted text next to your resume, so you can check for yourself what was lost.
Does Ergent rewrite my resume?
Only if you ask. “Improve resume” rewrites it using facts already in your resume and saves it as a new version; your original stays as it was. Or open it in the builder and make the changes yourself.
Will this guarantee my resume passes every ATS?
No tool can promise that — companies use different systems and set them up differently. Ergent checks the things most parsers rely on (readable text, standard headings, contact details, dates, the job’s keywords) and shows you exactly what it read, so you can fix what’s in your control.
Does Ergent guarantee interviews or a job?
No. Nothing can promise interviews, offers or recruiter replies. Ergent helps you see what an ATS and a recruiter will read, fix what’s in your control, and prepare — the rest depends on your experience, the role and the market.
Is it free?
Yes. Every tool works on the Free plan. Without an account you get 10 AI requests an hour; a free account gets 60 an hour and saves your work. Pro only raises the limits.
Do I need an account?
No. Create a free account if you want to keep your scores, see them over time and reuse your resume in the other tools.
What happens to my resume?
It’s used to run the tool and, if you’re signed in, saved to your account. It isn’t sold or used for advertising, and you can delete everything from Settings.
